Today is bike to work day!

What a great idea to make this an official day. Since I work from home I don’t have a commute, so here is my way of participating: through illustration. Have a safe ride home and a great weekend!

The wonderful world of Kelly

On my walk through the Capitol Hill neighborhood in Seattle last night I looked into the window of the cute boutique CakeSpy Shop, where I saw a few of my dear friend and crazy talented artist Kelly Brownlee’s paintings. I asked for permission to take a picture of the paintings to share them here with you. Aren’t they just adorable?

I met Kelly 5 or 6 years ago through Biznik and we’ve been in touch ever since. We’ve collaborated a few times on projects. She designed a bunch of stunning collections for MOGO and recently illustrated the artwork for a Swiss startup called unblu that I am designing for.

Make sure to take a look at Kelly’s website and her Etsy shop, you’re bound to be smitten!

Reconnecting with mother nature

I spent a beautiful weekend in Portland, reconnecting with mother nature. On Saturday I walked around trees and bushes and tried to pay special attention to the subtle details in leaves, flowers, tree bark and how the wind gently kisses nature to let it breathe. Below is a tribute to that beauty in my own abstracted style.

Introducing my first line of rugs – Satori

I am thrilled to announce that my long time dream to design a line of rugs has become a reality. As of today, my first rug collection Satori is now available through Lindstrom Rugs, a rug company based in Los Angeles.

My collection consists of 8 rug designs in 4 featured colors. The rugs are hand woven in Nepal and are primarily sold to interior designers who can customize the rugs by choosing their own color schemes, size and materials.

Below are a few samples in various color schemes. You can see the entire collection at lindstromrugs.com/satori.html

This is the first of two collections. I am currently working on the second collection which is scheduled to launch on Mai 1st.

Love birds

Whenever I go on an an airplane trip, I bring a sketch book along to doodle around as I “wait” to arrive at my destination. These birds came to life on a trip to Switzerland last December. Yesterday I looked through my sketchbook and decided to scan my love birds and start coloring them in Illustrator. Here’s the beginning of what I hope will become a full collections of love birds in paradise.

A Mexican love story

Last week, two of my favorite people got married. To celebrate their union, they invited friends and family to spend a week with them in paradise (aka Tulum, Mexico). It was a perfect week with lots of sunshine, beautiful weather, good friends and very much love!

Below are a few sketches that I drew on the beach. Happy life together Angela and Hernan!

5 things I loved during the snow

Over the last few days, we had quite a bit of snow in Seattle. I always love it when the pretty snowflakes turn my neighborhood into a sugar coated winter wonderland. Fortunately my neighborhood got spared and didn’t become part of theĀ  300,000+ homes in the Pacific Northwest that lost power. This means that for me it was just a calm time to walk in the snow, talk about the crazy weather with the baristas that lived close enough to walk to work, enjoy time with my husband, relax, read, draw and marvel at the beauty of nature.

Here are my top 5 things I loved during the snow:

1. Getting a chance to rediscover my visually changed neighborhood and post new photos to Instagram.

2. Walking to Capitol Hill with Elmo-Bandito

3. Realizing that my brand new rain boots designed by the talented Jessica Swift turned out to be perfect snow boots (with a thick pair of socks inside).

4. Walking by a bunch of freshly made snowmen, here are two of my favorites.

5. Drawing some penguins and snowflakes.

Grasshopper

I am fascinated by insects and their physical structure. This is the first in a series of deconstructed insects. What amazing creatures we’re surrounded with here on planet earth!
