I like to mix things up

Too much of the same and I feel visually numb. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been rearranging my living spaces and dressing up in costumes. This allows me to get new perspectives on old things and spark my creativity.

My great grandfather helped build the Eiffel Tower

He was a metal worker by trade, originally from Italy and made his way to Switzerland via France where he helped build the Eiffel tower. Unfortunately he had vertigo and was only able to work on the tower until the first story. His son, my grandfather shared his love for metalwork and inspired both my brother and me to be creative and build things.

I met my husband at
Burning Man

In 2004 I went to burning man for the first time. I camped with the Space Virgins and loved being part of such a creative and welcoming group of people. My husband camped with the Space Virgins too which is how I met him. It took another year until we started dating. This year we’re going back to Burning Man, for me it’ll be the 5th time.

My name is…

Nadja Haldimann and I believe in rainbows and unicorns.

I am originally from Switzerland, studied Graphic Design at CCA in San Francisco where I graduated with a BFA in 1997. Then I worked at Mirosoft for 8 years, designing software. Eventually I started Gimbo Design, my freelance design company through which I still work as a User Experience designer for startups and independent clients.

Nadja Design is my expression of love beauty and color that I share with you through this website. Enjoy!

Six things about me

A few years ago people posted 25 things about themselves to facebook. I loved the fun and light way to share one’s story through facts and thought I’d share a few things that made me who I am today.

My immutable laws

I created these laws as a tool to help guide my work that I share through Nadja Design.

  • Less is more
  • Optimists aboard
  • Color rocks
  • Trust your gut
  • Share with love
  • Have fun!

My first job was at

At the age of 16 while attending high school, I started my first part time job at the local Mc Donald’s in my hometown Basel. My favorite part was lunch break during which I could eat as much as I wanted of the then so tasty junk food. Below is a picture of the Mc Donald’s I worked at. It’s still in the same location.

I love naming things

It started at the age of 10 when I thought that one name just wasn’t cutting it for my childhood guinnea pig, so I kept adding names until it felt right. Below is the full name I gave her:
