A brand new logo for Mama Bear

One of my User Experience clients asked me to draw a bear and her cub for their logo. It was fun to mix and match my software design and illustration skills for this project. Thank you Mama Bear for letting me be part of your vision!

Animal Alphabet E-G

A few weeks ago I started an Animal Alphabet. You can read my story how I got inspired to start drawing the alphabet, and see my illustrations for the first 4 animals A-D in this post. As of today I completed the alphabet through G for Grasshopper.

Enjoy!

The only to do list I’ll ever need!

As I was looking through my news feed on facebook this morning, I came across this to-do list that I’d love to share with the rest of you. I liked it so much, that I printed it out and put it on my wall as a reminder of that’s truly important! Via Positive Outlooks

The happy jar

This is such a lovely idea! I came across it via the Homestead Survival blog.

Start the year with an empty jar and fill it with notes about good things that happen. On New Years Eve, empty it and see what awesome stuff happened that year. Today is August 9th, but hey there is no time like NOW to start my jar.

How I decided to start drawing an Animal Alphabet

I’m a HUGE fan of Charley Harper and his animal illustrations. His work is just wonderful! He made an adorable book for children called ABCs. About 4 weeks ago, I started practicing illustrating again and decided to share one new drawing every day to my facebook page facebook.com/NadjaDesign.

Besides my commitment to dedicate 2+ hours a day to this craft, it’s actually really difficult to come up with new things to draw. This time I didn’t want to go back to my sketch books, but instead draw new things. So when I recently looked at Charlie’s ABCs book, I figured I’ll do my own animal alphabet series for a total of 26 new illustrations – it seemed like a no-brainer.

For the most part I am using different animals than Charley did for his book and I am taking requests from people as they ask me to draw specific animals for upcoming letters. But I did make some exceptions where I am just so much in love with the animals Charley picked that I decided to draw a few of the same ones but in my own style.

It’s been really fun so far and I thoroughly enjoy the process!

And below is my alphabet – so far I am at D for Dolphin.

Okavango dreams

In 2004 I spend a magical week on Safari in the Okavango Delta in Botswana. A good friend of mine is friends with a couple from South Africa that own a safari company. We were able to get the friends and family package during off season. This meant that we could actually afford going, but it also meant that it rained a lot. The rain turned out the be a perfect break for creativity, as I filled almost an entire sketchbook with illustrations of birds, trees and more inspired by that magnificent nature while waiting for the rain to pass.

For the last 8 years, I just left these sketches in my sketchbook. A few weeks ago I decided to bring them back to live, translate them into digital files and color them. Here are the first two of what I hope will become a large collection over time.
